K Strummer wins Bexhill Centenary Open

Bexhill Sea Angling Club held it's centenary open on Sunday 26th February and the weather certainly made the conditions excellent for being on the beach. The Winner was K Strummer (pictured)  with 2lb 11oz of fish.

The Results are:

1 K Strummer 2lb 11 oz
2. B Elliott 1lb 61/2 oz
3. C Crosby 1lb 5oz

There were a lot of Plaice (mostly small) caught in the competition which is unusual in itself but particularly so because of the time of year. We don't usually get many Plaice at Bexhill until mid March - and very rarely on the beach. Best Flat was won by B Elliott with a Plaice of 1lb 6oz.

D Knight won best round with a Whiting of 3oz! The highest placed Bexhill SAC angler was Yogi Poland who came in 6th!

Over 50 anglers took part and congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who took part on what was a lovely days fishing.

Angling Trust Announces taster Days for kids

Sport's governing body announces string of days to get kids into fly fishing.

The Angling Trust has announced a number of fly fishing ‘taster’ days for under 17-year-olds.

Being run in conjunction with England Youth Flyfishing, the youngsters will be given first class instruction, including casting tuition and fly tying demonstrations. The certified instructors will also provide all the tackle needed.

The three days will be held at Chigboro Fisheries, Essex, Toft Newton, Lincolnshire and Lockwood Beck, North Yorkshire.

The great news is that the Toft Newton and Lockwood Beck days will be absolutely free of charge, with the Chigboro event costing £25 in lake charges.

“Kids are the future of the sport so anything we can do to get them interested and involved in fly fishing is worth while,” Stuart Sharp of the Angling Trust told Total Flyfisher. “If just a hand full of the youngsters that take part in these days go on to be fly anglers we’ve done a good job.”

Children will need to be booked into the fly taster days in advance. Parents can contact the numbers below to book their child’s place.

News letter from Hastings Flyfishers about Powerdermills Reservoir

http://www.hastingsflyfishers.co.uk/newsletter/hffc_12feb_2.html

"
LESS THAN A WEEK TO GO!

Yet more fish arrive for the start of the new season which begins on Thursday 1 March. This time we played safe and took them to the reservoir via Southern Water's access route to the valve tower rather than through the main entrance. Despite being steep and having to reverse the vehicle back downhill, it was preferable to getting stuck trying to get onto the dam.

More deliveries are due before the season start. The water level is only two foot three inches short of the maximum and water is still being pumped in from the Brede river, so we hope that it will soon be full. Water clarity is also very good compared to last year and the water is cold - ideal conditions for the trout so the start of the 2012 season looks set fair.

As the fish were being unloaded, high up in the sky above us were no fewer than six buzzards performing awe inspiring acrobatics in the thermals; coots argued among themselves along the dam and a deer ventured into one of the clearings on the far bank. In the unseasonal sunshine it is easy to believe that all is well with the world, or at least it is here in paradise.Make a date to visit us next month, we can almost guarantee that you won't be disappointed."

Eastbourne charter boat Deep Blue creating waves in Sussex waters

Charter boat Deep Blue has been creating a stir in Eastbourne in recent months with a string of large cod  over 30lb and topped off by a fish of 43lb caught by London angler Chris Proctor. The local  boat fishing community is alive with gossip and speculation about where these monster fish have been landed.

All we know is that he has found some new areas to fish in, probably wrecks and probably well offshore. We've been fishing in inshore waters for Cod all winter and while a number of decent fish have been landed (particularly off the Beachy Head Ledge where we have seen Deep Blue anchored) nothing has match skipper Steve's consistency at finding the bigger Cod. Still it won't do his forward bookings any harm and of fellow charter boats in Eastbourne as well.

As more information becomes available we'll let you know.
